A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE YAZOO COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL LADY PANTHERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Yazoo County High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team finished the season with an outstanding record of 36 wins and only 2 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers Basketball Team won the District 4, Class 3A Championship, the North State Championship and the Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, averaging 70 points per game, the Lady Panthers also won the Yazoo County Tournament and the Yazoo City Tournament; and

WHEREAS, since January 1998, the Lady Panthers have maintained a phenomenal record of 57 wins and only 3 losses; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among the players, including the naming of Seneca Anderson, Jackie Gainwell and Larisha Graves to the All-District, All-North State and All-State Tournament Teams; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Patrick Nutter and Assistant Coaches William Cain and Charles Edwards, who have broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Patrick Nutter has brought additional honor to Yazoo County High School for being named the Yazoo Herald Coach of the Year in 1998; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Yazoo County High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Yazoo County High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team and Head Coach Patrick Nutter and Assistant Coaches William Cain and Charles Edwards for their outstanding 1998-1999 season, for winning the Class 3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Yazoo County High School, Head Coach Patrick Nutter and Assistant Coaches William Cain and Charles Edwards and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
